Welded Metal Art Competition Scoring:

Points will be awarded from 1-10 in each category, the participant with the most cumulative points wins first place, the participant with the second most points wins second place and the participant with the third most points wins third place:

  1. Value: Visual appeal, how much does it make you want to take a closer look? Does it grab your attention?

  2. Originality/creativity: High marks if you have never seen this style or concept before.

  3. Use of the medium: 50% minimum repurposed metal, only method of joining is welding - SMAW, GMAW, GTAW allowed. Oxyfuel, plasma cutters, band saws, hacksaws, chop saws, grinders are allowed for cutting.

  4. Degree of difficulty: How difficult does it appear for the artist to execute?

  5. Complexity: Higher marks awarded for more complex pieces.

  6. Overall artistic expression: How you would personally rate this piece.

Basic rules:

  1. Minimum of 50% repurposed metal.

  2. All joints to be welded using GMAW, GTAW, or SMAW.

  3. Any cutting method accepted.

  4. Unpainted.

  5. The piece must be three-dimensional and have no plane measuring more than a maximum 60 inches.

  6. Schools should select one piece to submit for national judging but may submit a second piece for display.

  7. Judging will take place on MAY 9, 2025.
